About
As a child, Andrea’s photographic style was influenced heavily by the rich, cultural diversity and eclectic climate of San Francisco, CA in the 1960’s -70’s. Although the cultural climate was rich, the pivotal moment was in 1975 while in class at her elementary school; that day, her life changed. Her classmate brought his fathers' camera to school. After she pleaded, he allowed Andrea to hold the camera; "This is what I want to do!", she said. Following school that day, she immediately went to the library and checked out a book on the basics of photography. While at Mercy High School, she continued pursuing the field, serving as yearbook photo editor for 2 consecutive years as well as president of the Photography Club. Following graduation, she matriculated to City College of San Francisco where she studied photojournalism. Following her studies at CCSF, she transferred to Howard University in Washington, DC in 1982 to study classical art with an emphasis in photography. While at Howard, her eye for color and composition was richly refined; an appreciation of “Art for Arts’ Sake” was indelibly etched in her mind. She earned her BFA Fine Arts/Photography in 1985. Throughout the years, she worked as a staff photographer for several institutions which include Georgia Tech, Concordia Publishing and Monsanto Company. She ultimately opened her own photography studio specializing in commercial work in the 1990's in St. Louis, MO. But after several years in business, the onset of digital era caused a shortage of work for photographers, so she made the difficult decision to close her studio. After years of employment with the Federal Government, she now combines her training and talent to pursue her ultimate goal as a photographic fine artist full-time. She looks forward to and is excited to share her future works with collectors and art enthusiasts. Andrea also holds a Master of Management from Fontbonne University and a Master Certificate in Project Management from Villanova University.
